Microsoft Tag Reader for Windows Phone 7, Soon

Microsoft is in the final baking stages of a tag reader tailored for its own barcode technology and designed for devices running the Windows Phone 7 platform.
For the time being, a Microsoft Tag Reader for Windows Phone 7 handsets is not available for download.

Still, according to an announcement from a Microsoft Tag team member, the reader has finished cooking, and it is in the final testing processes before it will be offered to users.

“Our engineers have completed Microsoft Tag Reader for Windows Phone 7 which is currently going through a thorough testing process,” the company stated.

At this point in time, a variety of Microsoft Tag Reader flavors are offered for smartphone users leveraging such mobile operating systems and devices as Android, Blackberry, iPhone, J2ME, Java 2 Micro Edition, Symbian S60, Symbian S60 1st Edit, Symbian S60 2nd Edit, Symbian S60 3rd Edit, Symbian S60 5th Edit, Windows Mobile 6.2 and below and Windows Mobile 6.5.


When accessing the download link for Microsoft Tag Reader for Windows Phone 7, users are greeted with a message from Microsoft promising that they will soon be able to grab the reader.

“Windows Phone 7 is coming soon - Please check the Windows Phone Marketplace for Microsoft Tag. Tag Reader is an Online application. It uses your phone's data plan - normal charges apply,” the company notes.

Earlier this week, the software giant revealed that Microsoft Tag has enjoyed consistent adoption and market success with no less than 2 billion tags being printed since the technology was launched in 2009.

Microsoft Tag graduated from Beta earlier this year with 1 billion tags already served, and uptake has grown exponentially, exploding by another billion printed tags in just a few months.

The Redmond company has yet to announce a specific availability deadline for the Microsoft Tag Reader for Windows Phone 7.
