Firefox 5 Is Officially Launching in a Few Hours, but You Can Download It Now
After only two months, work on Firefox 5, the successor to the highly-anticipated Firefox 4, is complete and the latest Mozilla browser should be made available via the official channels soon, it's slated for an official release on June 21.
But you can already grab Firefox 5 from the download links below since it has been made available via Mozilla's FTP servers. However, it is in all likelyhood a release candidate version of Firefox 5, which may be identical to the final bits that end up on Mozilla's Firefox download page.
However, there could still have been some bugs revealed only in this last few days, in which case, you should probably wait for the officially official Firefox 5.0 build.
That said, there's not much to get excited about Firefox 5 anyway, if you're a regular user. Firefox 5 represents an impressive milestone for Mozilla which has managed to successfully transition to a rapid release cycle inspired by Chrome, with new major versions coming every six weeks.
But this fast turn-around, of only a few weeks, comes at the expense of new features and, after the major revamp that was Firefox 4, users will have trouble seeing just what Firefox 5 brings new.
Not that it's completely lacking in new features, it's just that the ones that are there are hidden under the hood. Performance should get a boost in several areas in Firefox 5. The latest version also comes with improved support for the latest web technologies, like HTML5. It also adds support for CSS Animations.
Those concerned about their online privacy, or lack thereof, will be glad to know that Firefox 5 includes the new "Do-not-track" header which notifies ad providers that the user does not want to be tracked via browser cookies or other methods.
Firefox 5 should be made available and announced officially by Mozilla very soon.
